2115/2045 Roll Marking Systems
Roll marking is used in applications where larger characters, longer
legends and greater marking force are required and cannot be achieved by
the press indenting method. With the proper tooling, roll marking can
mark metal products with flat, concave, convex, recessed, round,
cylindrical and conical surfaces.
During the marking cycle, the ram travels
vertically downward. As the die touches the part, the first character is
indented until a preset pressure is reached. The marking head travels
across the part, maintaining a constant pressure across the entire
surface. This assures uniformity of marking depth, regardless of
variations in part thickness or shape. After indenting, the marking head
returns to home position. A Dove Tail holder is used to mark around the
circumference of round parts and a roller die is used to indent on flat
parts.
Matthews offers a broad range of stock and
custom type, dies and holders as part of the Indent-A-Mark line of
indenting systems. The Versa-Dex carriage marks flat parts and is
designed for use with both solid roll dies and mortise roll type holders
using interchangeable type and dies. The Flat Roll Holder indents round
parts and can be used with interchangeable type and dies.
Matthews fixtures position and securely hold the
part during the marking cycle to ensure accurate location and alignment
of the mark. The physical aspects of the product to be marked determine
fixturing requirements. Standard and custom fixtures are designed to
hold flat and round parts. |

Impact Press Indenting
Impact or press indenting is useful for marking on products which
require long production runs, precise mark registration, quick marking
time and controlled marking. Indenting can be achieved as part of the
production process or as a separate operation.
With the impact method, the entire message is indented at one time using
an impact press with a press-style die, holder and changeable type or
numbering head. The force to indent the product is produced by a
compression spring in the impact press. The machine and tooling selected
is determined by the size of the inscription and the hardness of the
material.
Available in six models for manual or pneumatic operation with an
indenting force ranging from 1/2 ton to 10 tons, impact presses can be
used for serializing, inventory control, punching, shaping and more.
Production rates are limited by the speed of loading and unloading
the press. We can provide material handling systems to feed the product
to the press. |
